Lets face it, getting music isn’t what it used to be. Now days people tend to get their music from so many different sources that it has truly revolutionized the music world. Online downloading and music viewing really has become the ultimate way to enjoy your favorite tunes.
Well everything is happy go lucky until people start to run into media player errors and compatibility issues with their many different songs. From my personal experience, the media players that seem to give people the most problems with downloaded music files are iTunes and Windows Media Player.
Say you just get done copying a CD onto your computer that you borrowed from a friend. Often times the songs on the cd will be perfect quality but they don’t have the correct song information(or ID3 tags). The most common errors are missing song names coming up as “Unknown Artist”, “Track 01”, “track 02”, etc.
Unfortunately for most people, they have no idea what to do in these situations and they probably don’t even know what an ID3 tag actually is. Here is a quick definition for you if you don’t already know.
Short ID3 Tag Definition from Wikipedia: ID3 is a metadata container most often used in conjunction with the MP3 audio file format. It allows information such as the title, artist, album, track number, and other information about the file to be stored in the file itself. Here are your options…
Option A – The Manual Method: Ok, so for option A the first thing you need to do is clear your schedule for a few days. You’re going to need quite a bit of time for this method and you’ll probably be getting pretty angry within about 30 minutes of this mindless busy work.
**Caution** You might freak out and rip your own hair out while fixing ID3 tags by hand. This can potentially lead to increased blood pressure, hair loss, extreme irritability, and the strong urge to break your own computer.
Option B – Use an Automatic ID3 Tag Editor: There’s no need to worry, you can breath out a sigh of relief. Fortunately there is a simple solution to this broken ID3 tag problem. The solution comes in the form of an automatic ID3 tag editor. Basically what these programs do is go into your music library and scan each song and they actually fix any of your broken ID3 tags.
Its actually quite genius and after discovering an ID3 tag editor I was compelled to spread the word. There are several programs on the market and you can shop around if you’d like, but I recommend using a program called Tuneup Media.
The program uses gracenote technology to actually cleanup your music library. Its a simple plugin that runs along side either Windows Media Player(WMP) or iTunes and gives you several different music management tools. You will be able to edit your ID3 tags by dragging and dropping any songs that need fixing and watching Tuneup automatically fill in the correct data. Its really quite amazing, complete music cleanup, requiring just a few clicks of the mouse.
